Knit, sew, gamer, avid reader, sometime writer, cook, baker. Mom and wife. Probably autistic, but I was a girl in the 90s so no one really gave a damn. 40-something now. Politically progressive, anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalist. Put the B in LGBTQIA+.
It's because refusing women the vote but allowing them to marry serves white men.

Or, and hear me out, Craig, it's always been sleezy but it was normalized because hurting the feelings of men could often get women hurt.

Shared generational (internet) trauma can really bring a group together.

I kind of love that we're all old enough that I knew this was likely to pop up sometime and I applaud you for being the one to do it.

And, er, yes, I have knit almost an entire sweater in about two weeks. IT HELPS MY ANXIETY OKAY.

In case you thought I was done making knitting posts: THEY WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE WORLD IS LESS FUCKED UP. Also, probably after that. It's just kind of what I do in the fall and winter. Here is progress on my sweater that shows the raglan detail better than anything else so far.

There are also a lot of small producers of bags like this that you could instead spend a third to half of the money supporting.

The amount of stuff that I see every day that has me wanting to scream "HOW CAN YOU THINK THAT'S A GOOD IDEA" at the screen/TV/actual people is getting to be very, very concerning.
November 12, 2025 at 12:39 AM
The amount of people who are willing to just put out into the ether that they are too lazy to read a fucking book and instead want to ask a computer that can hallucinate shit they didn't even say to back them up is wild to me.
November 12, 2025 at 12:25 AM
Once you consider the fact that so many of them are all in because they literally want to do as little work as possible all the time for everything you understand why it is now a flex to show that you do absolutely nothing of merit yourself and it's also likely why *waves hands at everything*

I think this goes a long way to explaining our current situation.

They were never fully starved in the first place. There was always just enough pushback to have them back off the truly horrible version of an idea while doing something that still furthered the agenda and made the really bad ideas seem less horrible over time.

Knitting for Olive sweater quantities (a ball of merino and a ball of silk mohair or two of heavy merino per day) in my four favorite colors and the last day would be a sweater quantity of Compatible Cashmere. :D

So when they fail their own constituents, they fail those of us who rely on them to represent those blue dots in the red sea. And continuing to elect and work with people who fail again and again to hold any of this to account isn't actually going to win a fight against fascism.

I live in Iowa. I don't have democratic senators to call. (Not my fault; I've voted one way since 2004.) But that's also why I'm passionate about this: these people aren't just representing their own constituents, but also those of us who very literally don't even have a prayer of dem reps.
November 11, 2025 at 12:54 AM
...but you have no personal bias and therefore have the standing to tell people who are rightfully holding people to account to come together because it's the only way to win when it has literally proven to be absolute crap time and time again?
November 11, 2025 at 12:34 AM
Furthermore, if the majority was against it, then the fucking minority leader should have shot down the capitulation because the majority of the caucus was against. That's his job. But he didn't do it. Do you know why? Because he wanted it. He's just up for election in 2026 so won't take the fall.
November 11, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Closed door meeting. The only ones who crossed the line are those who aren't up for election. If I had to guess, there were considerably more of them who wanted this and these are the ones willing to cross that line because they won't actually lose their jobs over it in the midterms.
November 11, 2025 at 12:24 AM
Uh. Where are the current democrats doing any of that? It's the people in the streets doing the work that are actually supporting the fight and our elected representatives are basically folding under pressure of America's ridiculously incompetent version of the Third Reich.

Then again, the republicans have been working constantly to make them more and more like the church programs as time goes on by putting restrictions on them to punish those who use it.
November 10, 2025 at 11:25 PM
There's a video of a woman yelling about this that I found and she's right: this type of shit is *why* churches and religious organizations are not the answer here. The gov progs are wider reaching and (ideally) non-discriminatory. The churches can refuse whomever they want.
