Anthony vs dead turtles

Glutton for paleontology fieldwork punishment. Discovering new ancient sea life all over Western Kansas. Curator. Also home to random rescue Golden Retriever pics and the occasional dinosaur.
To celebrate the holidays, the 3d department made a bunch of Mini Winnies to decorate with. #MosasaurMonday

How it started vs. How it's going, #MosasaurMonday edition from Winnie! The first full scale skull prototype is ready for assembly and I can't wait to show it off, along with all of her weird facial trauma.

This 86 my old Plesioplatecarpus was found just this past spring in the Niobrara of KS 🧪

Oblig here by Fort Carson, but with fewer marines.

New Idiot Dog had some much fun making people pet her at the brewery last night, that she is now on nap #4 for the day.

On her head is Pete the Dimetrodon, keeping her safe

What the heck am I looking at in the upper L corner?

Looks like an AIM-9X under a wing of...?

Weather goes to shit tomorrow so New Idiot Dog made it out for some yardwork

Thanksgiving is over so our local flock of 20 turkeys is out and about.

There was a tiny runt of a turklet this year that all the neighbors named "Jeff". He's still kicking!

I roasted my first turkey today!

Only 2 of us so I dismembered the lower half for later. Winnie is gonna get so many leftovers.

How much luck will I get by snapping a T. rex wishbone this Thanksgiving?

Subscale Winnie model! The full sized Plesioplatecarpus skull will have a 22 inch (55 cm) lower jaw

Winnie meets Winnie!

We finished the 50% scale mosasaur skull reconstruction today and ip looking over it for edits, but in the meantime I'm also cracking a beer and snuggling with my girl who is fresh out from her latest chemo appointment
November 26, 2025 at 10:36 PM
So... let's see if we can get this digital reconstruction of Winnie done by Thanksgiving.....

Without downloading any new pics, what's it like dating you

Happy #MosasaurMonday from Eustace, the holotype skull of Jormungandr walhallensis discovered in North Dakota by the NDGS.

We were tasked with taking this not-quite-complete skull (right) and digitally restoring it for display at the NDGS as well as a library just a few miles from the dig site 🧪

Abstract submitted! I should not be allowed to come up with titles.

What a rollercoaster.

We were able to locate one of Winifred's daughters from her time in the puppy mill using Embark! She lived in Colorado too! Contacted the owner to see about arranging a meet up and...

The daughter died this past August from hemangiosarcoma.

It works!

We've done a lot of work like this in the past, moving and repairing old casts and mounts. Large format printing has come a long way.

Happy #FossilFriday from this print of the holotype skull of Bison "kansasensis". This copy has gone off to greener pastures, but we're working on another one to assemble and hopefully put in our catalog.

Waiting on chemo for New Idiot Dog, so here's a throwback to 5 years ago when I was finishing up the cast reconstruction of Walker's skull

This bruiser was the second Mosasaurus ever found in Kansas (Wally was the first) from the Weskan shale, near the Colorado border.

Who's got 3 paws and is excited about dinner tonight?

When you've found 20+ of them, and had to help dig up even more of this giant stupid fish, you just kinda.... are over it.
