Not yet but I will. It’s very consistent with the material I’ve seen on reflexive modernity, which I think missed a trick on tech.

Welcome to the Hotel Nova Scotia
It’s a lovely place, but if you come by train, all you can do is leave.

It is a joy and a privilege to travel by train, seeing as how Nova Scotia only has one passenger station in the entire province.

If Musk interprets a book one way, you can be damn sure that if the author were alive they’d put him straight. This is just the latest in a very long line of literary abuses.

Hmmm. As someone who was there, the basis for the previous generation (“intelligent tutoring systems”) was literally that they had a model of an individual learner. Not one implicit in a conversation, but explicit in knowledge representation. I’m not convinced LLMs are a step in the right direction.

It’s so weird that Silicon Valley moved from creative destruction through to literally believing it can engineer the creation of an entire market through high-level lobbying. But it’s very consistent with reflexive modernity: industrial methods to create markets, not products.

Don’t think I’ve had Covid either, thank goodness. But boy do I remember full-on flu. It can be so bad. Last one took about three months to come back from. No thanks, I’ll pass on having that again. And the bonus is you also help a little to protect everyone else.

Oh no, hope you’re fully back up and about soon. That’s a good one to be protected against, though.

4??! Crikey that’s ambitious. I probably should do the shingles one. I am forever resentful as I managed to get chickenpox in my mid 40s and it was just brutal — if only I’d got the vaccine. Like even the soles of my feet were covered and walking was like on burning coals. All preventable.

I went for both in one because (a) side sleeper, and (b) imminent travel and I need one functional luggage arm. It’s not too bad now, as long as I use it the arm settles down okay.

Weirdly I think Amazon is the most robust of big tech. If LLMs go into a winter, Amazon will survive almost unaffected. I’d not be surprised to see them strategically distance a little from LLMs.
On the other hand, Microsoft, Meta, and Google could easily shrink by 80% overnight. They have no moat.
