I almost make music, I almost make games, and I almost make music for games. That's about it.

It's exhausting to think of all the things I don't do.
Contra III: The Alien Wars

I was not keen on the relative lack of screen real estate, but the game more than makes up for it with the incredible amount of exciting setpieces. 6 stages as opposed to 8, but they didn't waste a single inch of any. So much crazy stuff happens in this game! It's awesome

Operation C

More of the same for the most part, some bits pretty reminiscent of the NES games.

Also, only 5 stages, with wacky progression, which is disappointing.

Regardless, still interesting (1 and 5 were my faves). there's no way you can really go wrong with more classic Contra stages.

Digimon World 2

Atrocious pacing, a world of forced grinding, uninteresting procedurally generated dungeons, using unavoidable traps to force you to redo hour-long sections through no real fault of your own...

Unbridled dungeon crawling madness to the nth degree. One of the worst yet.

Super C

Probably better than the first, even though I found stages 4 and 5 harder than stages 6 and 7.

However, it's otherwise exactly the same as the first game, to the point both can be stitched together alternating in some way to create a 16-stage game and no one would bat an eye.

Contra

Good old fast-paced NES action. Relies heavily on infinite grunt generators, which I dislike. However, it may be the most gracefully aged NES game considering the player will never feel bound by any clunky restrictions on movement or attack trajectories at any point, which is huge for '88.

A somewhat misunderstood pioneer of its age. Little mercy for beginners, and there are some sections of uneventful downtime, but it's brimming with intricately interwoven uniqueness. There was nothing quite like it, and they did a pretty great job, all things considered.
