When Moose and I took our morning walk, we often strolled through a cemetery, and occasionally we would spot a coyote or two. The light was never great for photographs, but we still enjoyed watching them. Moose was always excited to see them, but I ensured we kept our distance.

🎵They've got legs. They know how to use them. 🎵

Spring is around the corner, so it seems like a good time to remember that you may find fledglings on the ground, and that's a normal part of their development as they learn to fly. Chances are a parent is nearby so just let them be. I shot this Steller's Jay while hiding behind a car.

Let's throw it back with another fall pic.
Bewick's wren, recognized by its bold white eyebrows, flicks its tail as it moves from branch to branch. Except for a couple of places on the East Coast of the U.S., they no longer exist but are doing well in the West.

Good morning!
Just looking around, trying to figure out where the weekend went.

Almost every picture of a raven or crow that I take will be turned into a black and white photo. Removing background colors can really emphasize how strong and majestic these birds are.

Pondering life's great mysteries? Or are they simply observing other birds in the forest? 🤔
I'm leaning toward the former; why else would owls be considered wise?

Why does it look like this bushtit is surfing on this branch 🤔 😂

Rufous hummingbirds are some of the feistiest birds I have ever seen. They have no problem chasing away other birds for prime flowers and spots near feeders. This makes for some exciting high-speed chases in our yard each summer and I'm looking forward to their return.

Whoooooo's the cutest? This young fluffball also known as a Barred Owl makes a compelling case.

You know it's winter in the PNW when the neighborhood fills with the haunting, flute-like sounds of Varied Thrushes.

Good morning, Bluesky! I photographed this very wet Steller's Jay late one fall. They are absolutely gorgeous.

How many owls do you see? Moose was always really good at finding owls in our local park and, of course, he got rewarded with treats. I wouldn't be the photographer I am today without him by my side on those long morning walks. Today would have been his 14th birthday. ❤️ 😭

I haven't posted a photo of an owl since Sunday so let's correct that with this beautiful adult Barred Owl.

Bushtits primarily consume small insects, including those that cling to twigs and leaves. The female bushtit I photographed one summer appears determined to find a satisfying meal among the honeysuckle leaves.

I found a photo of a turkey vulture I took several years ago that I didn't care for. I decided to make it black and white and added a strong vignette. Now it has a dark, spooky vibe that I really enjoy.

This northern flicker wasn't going to let a little rain (or a downpour) stop it from getting a bite to eat.

#SuperbOwl Sunday is here! Apparently there is a big game on TV today but I'm more interested in all of the owl photos that will be posted.
My contribution is this adorable juvenile Barred Owl!

It's finally #SuperbOwl weekend!
I don't have much to say about this Barred Owl that I haven't said before, but I do want to emphasize how gorgeous it is. Also, notice its neck flexibility!
