Of all the ways that the government could bring defence spending up to 2.5% of GDP, cutting overseas aid to 0.3% is probably the most shameful.

A Labour government cozying up to the super-rich does seem like a betrayal.
"Plans to abolish non-dom status will be amended to allow a more generous phase out of tax benefits, Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced."

Another day, another Labour disappointment.

You'd think I'd be getting used to it by now. But each new one stings like a paper cut.

It's so very frustrating that the government refuses to contemplate the most obvious means of improving the economic performance of the country.

Another Sunday, another day with Farage spouting his bile on the BBC.

So goodbye 2024. The year when a heart attack confirmed the absolute need to seize the day. Hopeful that 2025 will be less memorable.

Sad to hear about the passing of Johnnie Walker. From his R1 show which was a must-listen at school lunchtimes to being a staple of my Sunday afternoons, he's been a joy to listen to. RIP Johnnie.

This is outrageous. I missed my uncle's funeral because of the JSO protests on the M25, but that amounts to nothing compared to the disruption that climate change is already causing. The sentencing was bad enough, but to recall someone to jail because you can't find a tag to fit is disgusting
As Gaie's MP I tried everything I could to challenge this decision to send her back to prison - including writing to the prisons minister Lord Timpson and the probation service. But they would not budge a millimetre.

This is a real area of failure for Surrey County Council and one which needs to be urgently addressed.
More than 1800 kids with SEND missed 1/3 of their schooling last year in Surrey.

EHCPs come back with incorrect names, describe incorrect conditions, and offer woefully inadequate support. Schools are at breaking point.

Yet, Surrey County Council blames Surrey parents for being “too articulate”.

It's welcome that Angela Rayner and now Rachel Reeves are talking about resetting relations with Europe, but if we remain outside the SM/CU, it's hard to see exactly how much significant progress in undoing the damage of Brexit can be made.

(Political post warning) Absolutely shocking grandstanding by the Conservative group at the EBC council meeting this evening. Absolutely no intention of being constructive, simply going for headlines for election literature. Awful meeting.
