Moon Messages

Pictures from life, mostly with my wife. At one time we lived on opposite sides of the world and would leave messages with the moon to share with the other as it traveled the distance between us.
I came across this girl while trout fishing. Later, I saw her tumble down the bank and back into the stream after she finished laying her eggs. #turtle #snappingturtle #herpetology

Nightcrawlers be crawlin' at night! The gardeners and fishing people will appreciate this night time excursion to see how the local nightcrawlers are doing.

This is the Gordonville Mud Sale. Mud sales are Amish run auctions that take place in the spring, when it's muddy, to raise money for their local fire departments. Thousands show up from near and far to buy everything from antiques to quilts to farm equipment. #amish #Lancaster #auction #culture

We were back to see the Snow Geese! We found that they had been scared from the main pond to a smaller pond by a backhoe doing maintenance at a nearby park. This is a video of them flying back to the main pond.

A bluebird visits us every year. While it's fun to think he's looking in our windows to say hi, he's just angry he sees his reflection in the glass. Unbeknownst to him, he's seeing himself and not someone competing for females and nesting sites. #birds #bluebird

Snow geese have arrived at a small pond in Lancaster, PA! There is supposed to be a single Ross's goose too, but nobody was able to locate it while we were there. We'll try looking for it again today!

After cutting down a dying tree, a pile of branches ended up near my bird feeders. It didn't take long for it to fill with birds!

This fine hawk was nice enough to watch over and protect my bird feeders over the weekend. Can anyone identify what hawk it is?

A frozen Susquehanna River as seen from Columbia, PA. It's been a frigid week starting with a snowstorm followed by a polar vortex with temps dropping below 0F. Once things warm up we'll be watching for the ice to break up and flow downstream, perhaps in dramatic fashion!

Some pictures from last weeks sledding! Looking up and down our childhood sledding hill.

It snowed last week, so we had to go sledding! And of course we went sledding on our childhood sledding hill! Not only is it a great sledding hill, it's also scenic!

Over the weekend a fox stopped by the shed in the backyard. This isn't the first time we've caught him on the shed cam and I suspect this won't be the last. #fox #wildlife

My wife made banana bread over the weekend and once again she's made something that looks as good as it tastes! Btw, we grew the mint! You can see how by looking at one of our earlier posts. #baking
