The trick Megyn is pulling here is to shift focus on the perpetrator and muddy their intent while completely ignoring how the abuse harmed the victims. Even a sex slave island of legal adults would still involve a lot of crime.

It’s ironic, because as a leading male financial decision maker, he’d be more likely to take extreme risks, overestimate his own abilities, and would be less likely to change his position in the face of contradicting evidence when it would mean he was wrong about something.

What about death wishes? “I hope you incur the wrath of an outer god..” etc.

I knew a guy who had very low investment in book knowledge, but was a genius at manipulating people with speech and getting a result he wanted. Knew how to lie in way that you couldn’t catch him later. Personable, but no close friends. That’s considered “smart” to sociopaths.

Agree, but as long as news reporting is a business, it can be hijacked by the very people we need journalists to investigate and report. I think they need to come up with a novel organizational structure that will ensure journalist can eat, while being able to speak freely.

Decoding is a foundational, but insufficient to building adult-level comprehension. The secret to reading successfully past 2nd grade is to read.
I think it’s more “they can’t read and write because they don’t,” than “they don’t read and write because they can’t.” Screens everywhere-all-the-time have greatly reduced the amount of sustained long-form attention to text and this cohort was born in that world.

Sad trombone
I’m too lazy and too late to do the Zohran Mamdani text generator of “Why do they call it oven when you of in the cold food...” Next time.

I don’t know why, the French seemed appreciative of my butchering their language while attempting to order food or services. It’s like they knew this moron- who was trusting, polite, and had no idea what they’re doing- is ultimately doomed, but let him have his day. You don’t kick a puppy.
