... sole criteria for every important decision. Creating ever more chaos and dysfunction.

Pervasive, government-wide corruption appears to be an vital component of an authoritarian regime. The problem is it makes the government almost non-functional. Every important decision is made not based on some sort of effective strategy but on who benefits and by how much. That becomes the...

The Senate deal just reminded us once again we're on our own. No cavalry is coming to the rescue. Going to have to fix this ourselves.

From 1945, my dad on the right standing next to his brother. He was 18 and had just been drafted. My Uncle Lloyd had already been serving for two or three years at the time.

If anything I think that's the lesson we just learned from what happened in the Senate. We need to elect a hell of a lot more AOCs. And the thing is it's not as if she's some big rarity. There's a hell of a lot of AOC's out there. Mamdani proved that too. They're not that rare. They're not...

Well, 2 things. This deal in the Senate just shows us that we, the public, are pretty much on our own here. No one's coming to the rescue. But then these recent elections show us that maybe we do have the power to save ourselves and to save our country.

Except that the government is being run by autocrats who don't care about breaking the law. Laws don't mean anything if there's no agency to enforce them, and we just don't have that right now.

Republican politicians etc whose phones were seached by Jack Smith in his DOJ investigations can sue for damages

$500,000 each.

And the Democratic Senators didn't spot this in the bill they passed 48 hours ago

Utterly beyond useless

Photo is from 1945. My Dad is on the right standing next to his brother. I think Dad had only just been drafted while Uncle Lloyd had been serving for about 2 or 3 years at that point. I'm assuming he was only 18 years old when this photo was taken.

But here's the other thing. We now know that there are people within the Trump regime, military officials, willing to follow illegal orders. A guy who was not willing to follow those orders was forced to leave his job. They just turned around and found someone who would.
