#TavQOTD Writer Highlight!

I’ve dabbled here in there on a few pieces, but most are incomplete thoughts. Here are some excerpts from two little ideas I’ve been playing around with—moments between Ilphiira and Halsin, during and after the Shadowcurse.
“Come,” she said over her shoulder, not looking at Halsin directly. “We should get out of the shadows. The boy looks as though he still needs aid.” Then she, too, began to limp towards camp. It was the sight of her, silhouetted against the bright backdrop of the moon cleric's barrier, that startled Halsin from his stupor. The smallness of her form against the vastness of the horrors they were facing. Halsin jogged to catch up with her, clutching Thaniel more closely to his chest. Two diminutive beings, and he was placing all of his hopes, his failures, onto the both of them. He'd known from the sight of her alone, that Ilphiira held the line against the worst of the shadows. That she would’ve gone down under their oppressive weight, spirit guardians winking out with her, to buy Halsin a second more time. To keep Wyll from death by the barrier of her own body. In that moment, Halsin felt torn. His spirit ached at the absence he felt within Thaniel, demanded to right the wrongness he felt emanating from the little body in his arms. But his heart walked a pained path mere feet in front of him—strung up among the beads that dangled from Ilphiira’s limp white hair, echoed in the bruises under her eyes. He yearned to follow her, to shelter her away from the darkness he had pulled her into. As they passed back into safety, Halsin allowed his heart to win out for just a moment. He reached out to rest a hand delicately on her shoulder. “Ilphiira, my—my friend, allow me to heal you, please,” He said softly. There was a trembling desperation to Halsin’s voice that he wished he'd been more successful in hiding. At his touch, the drow woman stopped walking and turned to finally look him in the eye. A depthless exhaustion clouded her gaze, a dullness Halsin had not before seen in her. She turned that gaze to the fingers on her shoulder and touched them lightly with her own. “Tend to Thaniel,” she said simply, and slipped from his grasp to walk the path back to camp. “I… I think today might be my birthday.” Ilphiira watched as a myriad of emotions passed over Halsin’s face, confusion chief among them. He knew something of her past—you didn’t meet a drow cleric of Kelemvor and not ask a few clarifying questions, after all. And after the encounter at Moonrise, the whole party knew about her aunt, about her parents’ deaths. Before Ilphiira could even attempt to clarify such a blunt, unexpected outburst, Halsin shifted the firewood under one arm and slowly approached her. His countenance had settled into something calm and gentle, all traces of confusion carefully smoothed away. He held his free hand out to her. “Then let us cherish what is left of it,” he said softly, tipping his chin in the direction of the fading sunlight. Ilphiira looked at the palm upturned before her with apprehension, unsure what Halsin intended to do. He must have seen her running, the franticness with which she had chased after the light. Regardless of whether he understood the tangle of emotions still threatening to overwhelm her, he had recognized what she needed in this moment. She slipped her fingers into his hand. Trust was something Halsin had long past earned from Ilphiira, so she gave it to him then. His palm was warm and rough beneath hers, dwarfing Ilphiira's own in its gentle grasp as he closed his fingers and used their shared grip to pull her into his side. He suddenly knelt before her, and with a low grunt of effort, hoisted her up to sit upon his shoulder. With a startled gasp, Ilphiira clung to his neck as Halsin raised himself from the ground. She caught his gaze in mild disbelief, and he looked up at her in a way that she didn’t know how to decipher. Rather than try, she turned instead to admire the view that this new vantage point provided. The sun, which had rapidly been disappearing behind the distant trees, gained a few more inches of clearance. A boon of extra time, another few minutes to take in the waning light uninterrupted[…]

Ilphiira is small in stature, even by drow standards—but she’s strong for her size. Smaller-chested, and some added softness around the thighs and waist, compared to the BT1 model that she has in game.

Ilphiira generally likes water, but seeing as she frequently wears heavy armor, she's not so much a fan of encountering large bodies of it throughout the course of the game. Too trecherous, easy to drown.
