We're never going to be able to escape it.

I'll chime in to say that going to the Christmas markets was an experience I'll never forget. Mulled Jenever. Mmm. And ducking into a bar for both beer and warmth is such a cozy feeling. Maybe it's best just as a memory, but still one I'll cherish forever.

I agree that for straightforward documents it does a nice job. But oh those link: prefixes bother me. A URL is already a macro prefix, so no need to add the link: prefix in front of it. I told AI not to do that in my session. Maybe it will learn.

100% this. That's the scariest part. They can actually change either the text or how strict they enforce the copy paste covenants at will.

One HOA I read stated that no playground equipment shall be visible from the road or a neighbor's house. Are you kidding me? Next.

I sure wish. Digging up information about HOAs is WORK.

IONNA!!!! Woot!

The first filter I put on when searching for a property is "no HOA". I'm not even looking at what else is out there beyond that*.

* There are some "common sense" HOAs that have restrictions no one would object to (no junk, no chain-linked fences, control erosion). But those are few and far between.

Precisely. I'm okay with what I call a "common sense" HOA, which is basically no junk and control erosion. That sort of thing. Everything beyond that is a fiefdom.

I feel like we need something akin to the Contributors Covenant for HOAs. Common sense, not dumb restrictive rules.

What happened to "get off my lawn"?

The truth is, Americans are just a web of contradictions.

It's even more of a joke in Colorado. You have people running around wielding guns yelling FREEDOM, revving their gas-powered truck engines as they skid off, only to return home to a draconian HOA that doesn't allow them to work on their truck, hang clothes on the line, or actually shoot those guns.

What an incredible moment! He's definitely a chip off the still young block. I have no double he'll be creating Devoxx-quality experiences wherever he goes, just like his incredible parents.
