The Minor Planet Center has designated 3I/ATLAS = C/2025 N1 (ATLAS), or informally "Comet ATLAS", a new interstellar comet that is currently about 4.5 AU from the Sun and screaming through the solar system at 58 km/s (130000 mph)

Hurricane Otis took full advantage of a warm patch of ocean last night... passing over 31°C water on its approach to Acapulco. The extremely rapid intensification from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane took place over this tiny area.

Hurricane Otis made landfall near Acapulco, Mexico early this morning as a Category 5 hurricane. That's bad enough, but just 24 hours prior, it was a tropical storm and was forecast to make landfall as a tropical storm. Not even a hurricane warning a day in advance... [1/2]

Full sequence of the annular solar eclipse at Shiprock, New Mexico. This was a dream composition of mine. So much time, energy, and money went into making it happen. I'm forever grateful to the Navajo for letting me shoot it from sacred ground. An experience I'll never forget.

Mind is still blown at this - found out from Mark McCaughrean that these were discovered in Australia!

This is shocked molecular gas expanding from the bottom of the image expected to be caused from merger of two massive stars.

And they're only ~500 years old and can be seen expanding annually!!
I’m sorry … WOT?!

EXPLOSION FINGERS?!?!?!?

JWST’s new images from Orion Nebula are spectacular! Look at this structure 🥹🤩😱

I’m sorry everyone, don’t mean to spam with this stuff, but I can’t believe what I am seeing in these JWST images.

Ran these through my image pipeline. The explosion fingers are beyond next level.

Along with that spectacular imagery, there's some fascinating science going on in the Orion Nebula.

Binary planet pairs, these ones < 7 x Jovian masses, just floating around in space not associated with any host star.

Like when otters hold hands & float. 🔭🧪
