I have played Atari today.
These look great! The house interior shots remind me a lot of the background art of the original Alone in the Dark in terms of colour scheme, lighting and suchlike.

And to be clear, coming from me whose best code is *the absolute fucking pits*, if even *I* think code is dogshit it must really really stink.

Yeah, "Game ports" on IBM PCs and compatibles at the time were a bit different, at least partly due to analogue joysticks being more commonplace. I believe they could also be used to connect MIDI devices like keyboards with an adapter, too.

It's not for the 2600 specifically. Most home computers around at the time (many of which were still being used in 1992 before we all switched to MS-DOS/Windows PCs) had the same joystick port as the 2600, so this would more likely be used on systems like the Atari ST and Amiga.

truly amazing what some people will offer as "feedback", unsolicited. We've had "do you even play games" emails before, and like... yes, yes we do, quite a lot of them, in fact

May I humbly submit what was probably the most unexpected (and delightful) occurrence of this phenomenon back in the day: golf game Tee Off -- on, yes, Dreamcast. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D7T...

Just because it's new tech being pushed by some of the absolute worst people in the world doesn't mean you'll be "left behind" if you don't use it. As far as I'm concerned, the ones giving themselves over to AI completely are the ones being left behind, as their *actual skills* will just waste away.

YES. So many people have already resigned themselves to the "it's inevitable" argument, and... no! It really isn't! We've been making games for 50+ years without this garbage, and many people are *still* making games without this garbage!

it’s not early days

this is the result of years of intensely financially motivated development being carried out in parallel by the worlds largest tech companies

this is what we’re getting and it’s shit

am I going to be left behind by those that “embrace” it?

oh no they’ll make mediocre shit faster than I make my stuff

while forgetting how to code/model/write/think when the bubble pops and the genAI tools get taken offline

Hopefully it'll show up later like Tetris Effect did. A physical release wouldn't hurt either.

Except with piracy - if at all - you will not be able to access these games on their intended hardware in 20 years time. At all. Gone.

I can (and do) go on eBay and pick up PS1 games I'd never heard of before still today.

Understand those complaining about Game-Key Cards aren't just whining.

Also, as a neurodivergent chap who already struggles to know what to say to real people in real conversations, I can tell you emphatically that I absolutely, positively *do not want* to feel that way when interacting with a game character! And that doesn't feel like it should be a big ask!
