I think it's symptomatic of GW as a whole becoming more proscriptive instead of trusting the customers own creativity: Build your own terrain? No, buy our kits. Build your own army? No, here's a Combat Patrol. Create your own characters? No, have another Bob. We own your hobby, not you, you wallet!

I think it's symptomatic of GW as a whole becoming more proscriptive instead of trusting the customers own creativity: Build your own terrain? No, buy our kits. Build your own army? No, here's a Combat Patrol. Create your own characters? No, have another Bob. We own your hobby, not you, you wallet!
I think there is also the proliferation of Bobs. There used to be only a few Bobs per faction: Chapter masters, chief Librarians, generals, Craftworld leaders, grand warlords, etc. Now, every sergeant and their uncle is a Bob...
