Again, imagine being a politician, and your opponent is withholding food from people while throwing lavish Great Gatsby parties, and you’re so bad at politicking that you’re just like “I have no idea how to spin this to my advantage.”
This is actually good spin, or would have been. But the fact that the Democratic cave happened without even a coordinated, agreed-upon message like this indicates the depth of the leadership void.

we should not be letting any company get away with blaming AI for their failures. I'm not even sure how we got to this point. people are like "it's just a tool" okay so is a forklift and we still hold somebody responsible when it goes wrong and hurts someone. this is YOUR AI!

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.

THIS!!!
A. You cannot trade anything for a Republican promise. Their promises are worth nothing.
B. The House can simply refuse to consider it even if they actually allow a vote in the Senate and somehow don't vote it down.

THE ONLY THING THIS WILL DO IS KILL THE MOMENTUM DEMOCRATS ARE HAVING.
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

Which is why they're doing it. That's the entire purpose of the centrist/Blue Dog/Third Way in the coalition. They are the mechanism of the ratchet effect.

In Italy labor unions helped start a network of left-leaning news/music radio stations that have become some of the staples of public information in much of the country. They now run on a donation / ads model, but initial investment was from labor. I think about this often.
The AFL-CIO should start throwing some money towards labor journalism. If it was done right (i.e. with them accepting that journalists must have full editorial control over what’s published, whether or not union leaders like what they have to say) it could really have such a hugely positive impact

might be copium but I conceptualize it as an alternate path for addiction with a less negatively impactful dint. It's better to be addcted 2 a video game that costs 15 dollars once than a slot machine that demands payment every spin

The recent gacha episodes kinda delegitimize this perspective tho
every clip people post about northernlion is him saying some "you need to touch grass. engage in earthly virtues, the pleasures of the spirit and the mind. reject dopamine. seek transcendence" while he plays 'Subway Surfers But It Makes You Addicted to Slot Machines' in the background

CNN is reporting that @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social referred to a voter he was meeting as “my man” at a campaign event today, even though the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution has made it illegal to own human beings since 1865 and remains the law in states including New York

Breaking character: This is a good thread. One my fixations is that Dems blow money on ads rather than building political infrastructure. My theory is they do this because the data tells them too just like the data told Robert McNamara to destroy Ford by cutting R&D to the bone.
Republicans have studied all of the Democratic ecosystem's ideas and strategies. They've directly copied every major left institution and then honed their own ideas in key ways:

1) Republicans use their money efficiently. They build institutions rather than rent them.

(1/X) I see our entire media ecosystem as essentially pro-Trump. For various reasons, most of the people who work in national media or own national media outlets shade their coverage to favor Trump. I want to go through some of the reasons.

First...Trump as avenger.
