Income isn’t supposed to play a role in how much housing assistance FEMA gives families.

But in some North Carolina counties, the highest-income homeowners received two to three times as much money after Hurricane Helene as those with lower incomes.

Arduous and Unequal: The Fight to Get FEMA Housing Assistance After Helene
An analysis by ProPublica and The Assembly of the more rural counties in North Carolina hardest hit by Helene shows that the households that got the most aid tended to have the highest incomes.

You can spend time arguing over the difference between shutting down FEMA & rebranding it but the reality is that the Trump admin has already dismantled FEMA to the point that it could not efficiently respond to a relatively small disaster in a state with a relatively large capacity EM system.

“Rapid deportations” = kidnapping people off the street and sending them to death camps. Covering this like what’s important is scoring political points is disgusting.

Louder for the people in the back:

If only citizens get due process, NOBODY gets due process.

Because then all they have to say is that you’re not a citizen, and you have no right to due process to prove them wrong — even if it’s a lie.
Also I hope we're all on this same page

EVERYONE needs to be brought out of that El Salvadorian hell hole

they were ALL wrongfully deported.

I mean it's good to focus on 'And this guy was here legally and not ever a gang member AND they're Venezuelan'

but NO ONE should've been sent there

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

The fact that tarrifs are on the top of front pages consistently while people getting abducted off the streets for their free speech without due process is relegated far lower should tell us everything about where much of the media establishment sees our priorities as a society.

It’s tornado season, and hurricane season starts in two months.
The National Weather Service is THE ONLY source of weather data in the US. Every weather app, local broadcaster, and weather forecast map is based on NWS data from NOAA. This is a ridiculously stupid own goal for the US that will disrupt all kinds of social and economic activity, and endanger lives.
BREAKING: The mass firing of upwards of 1,800 workers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, including top climate scientists and weather forecasters, has begun.

The firings reportedly include workers at the National Weather Service.

Evoking a book about how only hiring White men with a specific ideological viewpoint got us into the Vietnam War is certainly a choice here.
Trump also trotted out Transportation Secretary and veteran of MTV’s “Real World/Road Rules Challenge” Sean Duffy who stressed that the administration will “only accept the best and the brightest in positions of safety.” talkingpointsmemo.com/where-things...
