Happy new Year!

We start the new year with some #AutoML content. In September, we had our annual AutoML school, as always, with amazing speakers. Some of the talks are now available online. You can find them via the AV portal of the TIB: av.tib.eu/series/1849

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
It was a successful year for my group. Nevertheless, it also had its dark sides, losing valuable team members and not being as successful with grant proposals as I had hoped. Luckily, we are again on a good track now, and I'm hopeful for 2025.

Our MOOC on #AutoML is again online at the AI Campus. We needed to move to a new platform for the last two weeks, but now everything is done. Content-wise nothing changed, but we are already working on a revision of the course -- more updates soon.
AutoML - Automated Machine Learning | AI Campus
This course is intended to support future ML developers to make important design decisions automatically based on predefined data sets. Target groups are computer science students and professionals.

Many thanks to Oliver Bringmann (Uni Tübingen) for inviting me to the edaforum of the edacentrum GmbH. There is quite some gap between the #AI community and the #chip community, but we need to close this gap, if we really want to make real progress with AI.

Since BlueSky is gaining momentum, let me try again to post more about #AutoML (and related topics) here. There will actually be a big surprise at the end of the year ... Don't miss it ;-)

Maybe it was a long or short one, but most likely not an easy one. Nevertheless, I'm very happy to say that it was definitely a very successful one. Yesterday, @theeimer.bsky.social defended her PhD thesis and the committee agreed without any discussion that she should be awarded "summa cum laude".

The most important factor to ensure high-quality papers at a conference is still peer-reviewing. To make #AutoML24 a success, we are looking for reviewers who are willing to review a few papers in March and April. So, be part of it by nominating yourself. Please share.

I wrote up some thoughts on why talking about your research to non-experts as a PhD student can be a really great experience: theeimer.github.io/blog/2023/sc...

I experimented with it this year and while it's a lot of work, I learned a bunch as well! Plus people are really curious about AI/ML atm.
