7/ Carl Morton died on April 12, 1983 at the age of 39 when he collapsed after a jog and died of a heart attack. His story is a reminder of the highs and lows of a baseball career. Gone too soon, but forever remembered as one of the Expos OG!

6/ As a hitter, although he only posted a .156 batting average (86-for-551), he did hit 7 HRs & 42 RBI. He had a career-high 3 HRs & 15 RBI in '73. Defensively, he was above average with a .975 fielding percentage, which was 26 points better than the league average for pitchers.

5/ Despite his stellar rookie season, control issues plagued Morton in subsequent years, leading to a decline in performance. Morton later joined the Atlanta Braves before retiring in 1976. His journey in baseball, though marked by ups and downs, remains inspirational.

3/Morton’s MLB debut on April 11, 1969, saw him pitch nine scoreless innings. Though the Expos fell to the Cubs in a nail-biting 12th inning, losing 1–0, Carl’s potential was undeniable. He went 0-3 with a 4.60 ERA in 29.1 innings over 8 games in '69, striking out 16, walking 18.

Unfortunately, injuries, drug addiction and other challenges prevented him from fully realizing that potential. It's always tough to see such promise not fully realized, but his contributions to the game and memorable moments with #Montreal still hold a special place in #baseballhistory!

He truly had immense talent, with one of the most powerful & accurate throwing arms ever seen. He was a standout for the #Expos, earning a Gold Glove in ‘78 & an All-Star selection in ‘77. His potential was undeniable & fans who watched him play could see that he had all the tools to be a superstar!
