This road layout needs changed tomorrow. Better than that, it needs changed decades ago.

We cannot afford consultation, dither, and delay.
We hope she makes a full & speedy recovery

Alt headline: “A woman was knocked down by a driver on Ashley Terrace

When will Edinburgh council make our streets safe? - delays are costing lives and traumatising families

Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and elsewhere, this is where the future lies. Scotland needs to stop arsing about with roads and start building public transport infrastructure for the future.

Since 2011 the fuel duty freeze has cost the Treasury £133 billion.

This huge amount could have paid for lower train and bus fares, better stations, safer walking, wheeling and cycling and much more!

Rachel Reeves will freeze fuel duty to dodge ‘political suicide’
The chancellor will also highlight a rise in the minimum wage and plans to cut energy bills as she tries to win over voters by focusing on cost of living

Some responses more grounded in reality than others. And a consultation is not a referendum. Even a 50/50 split would be 1% of Edinburgh’s population against another 1%. What we need is political, future-focused will from our elected representatives. Climate change won’t solve itself. We need trams.

When do we agree that Elm Row (and, really, the whole of Leith Walk) just needs to have all parking removed?
So much for side-on parking on Elm Row - drivers parked right into the cycleway and on the pedestrian access/crossing to the bus stop. @jackrmcaldwell.bsky.social

Some good news.

London is meeting legal limits for toxic NO2 pollution for the first time – almost 200 years earlier than predicted – following the Mayor’s "world leading air pollution policies," City Hall announces.

The Ultra Low Emissions Zone - and similar policies - really do work.

Yes, yes you are. Stop cosplaying "legitimate concerns". When you join a far right rally, organised by well known far right leader Tommy Robinson, with a host of speakers who outright say they are far right, you are a racist. No ifs, buts or maybes. There are no excuses for being there.

If you want kids off devices, get rid of the cars off their streets. Build more LTNs. Stop building car dependent sprawl. Kids want to play outside; it’s their parents who don’t let them because of subconscious (and understandable) fears about them being hit by drivers.
Ban 'no ball games' signs to get children off devices, play experts say
Experts say outdoor play in England has declined by 50% and are calling for urgent change.

“… more roads, therefore more cars, therefore more roads, therefore more cars…. The future isn’t what we thought it would be: it isn’t shiny and it isn’t efficient.”

Building a new motorway in Scotland is not the long term solution to traffic congestion.

Good to see this article (£) in the Herald
Mark Smith: The new motorway that Scotland doesn’t need
Ash Regan of the Alba party has said that what we really need in Scotland is more roads, specifically a new motorway, but I have a message for Ash…

For many decades, Freiburg has been expanding tram lines and bike paths, enlarging and beautifying pedestrian zones, optimizing traffic lights, and improving legal regulations.

These efforts have been a great success: 79% of all trips are made by bicycle, bus, train, or on foot—the best in Germany.

This is one of the oldest stage races in women’s cycling, and I think it is definitely worth preserving. If you agree, please take the 1 minute it takes to sign this petition we have created in support of the Thüringen Ladies Tour, and please also spread the word 🙏

This video is an excellent resource to rationally explain the biases against transportation modes outside of cars.

It’s a great one to share with friends and family who might be open to a logical discussion about our current motoring environment and the changes we need to consider.

Extremely concerning answer to my question suggested by @spokeslothian.bsky.social at Edinburgh council meeting today on delays to active travel projects. Delays of 6-8 years common, some delays of 10-11 years.
