We are currently thinking through how the underlying principles that led to projects like the CUNY Academic Commons, Manifold, Blogs@Baruch, Vocat, OpenLab, CBox, ASHP, and the great OER work happening in CUNY's libraries should inform curricula, pedagogy, policy, and strategy related to genAI.

A huge shoutout to the many people on our teams who do the hard work of supporting our users and thinking through new possibilities, among them @lukewaltzer.bsky.social @kmichael.bsky.social @lauriehurson.bsky.social, Robin Miller, and so many others.

We're sometimes better at doing the work than publicizing it, so I'm grateful to @mattseybold.bsky.social for highlighting our projects and potential, and to colleagues like @laurenfklein.bsky.social & @whitneytrettien.bsky.social for emphasizing it!

These projects were made possible by consistent support from CUNY (especially the CUNY Office of Library Services in recent years) & @thegraduatecenter.bsky.social); funders like NEH, Mellon, and Sloan; and amazing teams (incl., for Manifold, @uminnpress.bsky.social & @castironcoding.bsky.social)

For years, we've been developing projects like the CUNY Academic Commons (commons.gc.cuny.edu), Commons In A Box (cbox.org), and Manifold (cuny.manifoldapp.org), all in line with the mission of a 26-campus system that serves "the children of the whole people" of NYC.
