As a librarian, I have noticed that many students seem to have more limited vocabularies. This is probably not just AI, though that’s not helping. Guessing it’s the result of less reading and less exposure to different kinds of writing overall. It sucks!

A few weeks ago I was asked to speak on the topic of what I want in our next university president. And I guess what I truly want is someone who isn't so willing to burn the whole place down in pursuit of "innovation" or "excellence at scale" or whatever.

A few weeks ago I was asked to speak on the topic of what I want in our next university president. And I guess what I truly want is someone who isn't so willing to burn the whole place down in pursuit of "innovation" or "excellence at scale" or whatever.
Being a union member who works for a big public university, I would like to believe that the bosses are invested in the survival of the institution. But wow have the last few years made it hard to sustain my faith in that assertion.
