Hard to explain why you connect to some teams more than others - age, life circumstances, style of play. I somehow love this team more than any since I was a kid. Forever thankful for this run and the chance to root for a team that seems to be full of genuinely decent people.
Trying not to think about it now, but this is probably the last time we're going see some of these guys as Celtics. Tremendous appreciation for what they've done and how they've carried themselves. Last year's team was my favorite I've ever covered, in any season, in any sport.

With the election of a new Pope, we look ahead with hope.

May Pope Leo XIV carry forward Pope Francis’s legacy of championing and defending the rights and dignity of immigrants and refugees all over the world. Now more than ever we need faith leaders to stand with the most marginalized among us.

Trump is trying to bludgeon us into accepting the tactics and imagery of fascism: Forced disappearances, renditions to foreign gulags, the ritual humiliation of hated enemies within.

That's why it's so crucial that the middle is rejecting it.

Trump Is Suddenly Bleeding Independents. A Brutal New Poll Shows Why.
Immigration was his best issue in the polls. But now he’s sinking on it. Maybe Americans care about the rule of law after all.

Duke alum Stephen Miller hurting Blue Devils' chances in Final Four.

Cooper Flagg also clearly worried about the hundreds of millions of lost Canadian tourist $ in Maine this year due to Trump policies.

Duke Player May Face Deportation After Blue Devils’ Loss In Final Four: Reports
Khaman Maluach is a potential first-round NBA draft pick, but his immediate future appeared uncertain following the Trump administration’s latest deportation move.

The institutions of the American economy depend on the institutions of American democracy; rule of law, consistent regulation, stability, and all the rest.

That’s what’s being destroyed and that’s what risks the *entire economy.

Saying that out loud shouldn’t (and can’t) be a risk
The whole thing is important, but listen until the end: the US depends a lot on the flow of capital into the country because it is perceived as the safest port in a storm. Once that is no longer true, a lot of things Americans take for granted go away.
A top economics reporter goes off script on national TV: “I am going to say this at risk of my job, but what President Trump is doing is insane.”

yes! the idea that the executive can simply make spending decisions independent of a legislature or parliament is basically antithetical to the entire anglo-american political tradition
This is so antithetical to the English legal tradition that they killed Charles I about it, and then they couped James II
Chip Roy endorses impoundment (which is illegal): "All the powers our founders gave were invested in the executive, in the president. POTUS has the ability to go forward and say, 'we're gonna spend this money the way we're supposed to under the law.' There's no requirement he spend every dollar."

While we fulminate about the lack of “resistance” and how Dems. build back, think we underestimate and forget the sheer level of batshit crazy and stupid that will be constantly on display
Trump: "In California, millions of gallons of waters are waiting to be poured down through already the half pipes that are already built. I mean, they've been up for 40 years and about 20 years ago they turned off the water. And it's the water that comes from the Pacific Northwest."

this is always a key point. in general, budget cutting doesn't need to worry about the filibuster for reasons tied to increasing or decreasing deficit spending. this is among many reasons why Ds shld universally want to get rid of it. it's basically entirely in service of GOPs.
Remember also that these policies are largely **filibuster proof.**

With control of the House and Senate, Republicans can use a process called "reconciliation" to pass budgetary legislation without many hurdles on the floor.
10 policies Republicans could use to pay for new tax cuts
Extending all of the 2017 tax law could add close to $5 trillion to the national debt. To offset the cost, Trump and Republicans are considering these policies.

“The 14th amendment is the most important amendment …since the Bill of Rights … to change a pro-slavery regime … to one based on equality, regardless of race … [birthright citizenship] is very important in the constitution … We’re not a country with an ethnic identity.”

In the “before” days, which would have been biggest career ender from this week’s revelations alone:

-Hawking made-in-China, "God Bless the USA" bibles
-Sending scarce COVID testing machines to enemy during pandemic
-“So what?'" response to rioters targeting his VP
-Or open embrace of eugenics?
