Midwesterner. Looking for how our country gets back to normal. Following progressive politics, Chicagology, the arts, cats, and quirky stuff.

Why are people following me? I’m here more to read than post.
I scored a sheet of Chris Ware stamps, but now I don’t want to use them. Such an excellent illustration.

Probably my last view of Regenstein Hall at the Art Institute before they convert it into the Conservation Center. It was strangely open to display a large piece, but had a very under-construction look, with bare walls and some old cards on the walls.

This still seems like an odd move for the AIC.

Spotted the charming pair in the left photo on South Jefferson earlier this year. Don’t they look as though they’d have stories to tell? Photo on the right is a Google street view of the much grander building across the street. The entrance makes me think of the Wrigley Building.

Anyone else thinking of this moment in Chicago history? No particular reason. (Sun Times file photo)

@chicagovtfloor.bsky.social, have you already covered the Reliance Building? You’d probably get a better shot of this spectacular floor.

Exhausting, but awesome day including @starshapedpress.bsky.social, Koval Distillery and Hilliard Towers for OHC with #nokingsday in Grant Park in between.

Spotted in the wild. (Actually, a woman walking ahead of me spotted it, but I’m putting a claim on it.)

Dazzled by this wisteria since we don’t really have them around here:

I had a free canvas tote bag repaired last year. I have a zillion canvas tote bags, but this is my favorite. The guy clearly thought I was nuts. So, I hear you. And there’s more attachment with shoes.

Wasn’t expecting anything to be in bloom at Lurie Garden, but the patches of purple were visible from the Art Institute. I think this is squill?

Inspired by @dmercer.bsky.social and @ladytophamcatt.bsky.social : here are some skinny neighbors I spotted on S. Jefferson.

And I’m sure @chicagovtfloor.bsky.social has already documented the beauties of the Newberry Library.

Hope the 70th anniversary of this gets some attention.

It’s not a great image, but I thought you might like to see what the colors in your family’s version might have been!

If you see this, quote post with a photo you took of a sunset.

Nothing lifts the spirits like a trip to Garfield Park Conservatory. Or maybe it’s just that I haven’t looked at the news for about four hours.

Two good things in my day:

1. Went to the local office of my my congressional rep to voice my concerns in person. A pleasant staffer assured me that things are happening behind the scenes. So we’ll see.

2. Then I went to the local conservatory for a half-hour tropical vacation. A great respite!

Spotted this when I returned from my morning walk. It’s not much, but I’ll take any cheerful tidbit today.
