Umm, yeah, that's not ideal! I expect this scene to repeat itself further south in southern Vermont and the Berkshires as they days wears on due to intense snow squalls. #vtwx

Controversial take: gravy ruins turkey! The juices in the pan are more than adequate to make this turkey moist.

Not as bad as I expected for ~5 PM on the day before Thanksgiving. I've seen it worse on Sunday afternoons in the summer than it is now.

I love the small scale variations in the weather around here. Dense fog at my house, but it looks clear up on VT-9 going over the mountain. A light S to SE wind will cause my location to fog up while the other side of the hill is in the clear. #vtwx

Yay! The Trump house that I pass nearly everyday finally took their Trump shit down! I was so tired of and annoyed with looking at it all the time! No there's some dumpy old camper there where all of the Trump/MAGA stuff was, but I'd much rather look at that.

Mt. Washington is being a bit shy so far today, but my fingers are crossed that hopefully it’ll make an appearance later before the next storm comes in this evening with a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain. There’s about 5-6” of snow here in Bretton Woods. #nhwx

Ugh...not again! Yet another closure of US-7 somewhere between Bennington and Dorset. Two lane limited access freeways (with an occasional third climbing lane on uphill sections) without some type of barrier in the middle is a recipe for disaster. US-6 on Cape Cod is better, but not ideal...

Even though it is overcast, the aurora borealis is bright enough to cast a reddish glow that is visible to the naked eye. The 3 second exposure on my phone camera does make it appear brighter than it actually is though.

A tough few days for the weather models around here: first with a significant windstorm bust earlier this week followed by a bad forecast for today which called for cloudy skies and rain, especially this morning, but it was beautiful most of the day. Good day for a walk. #vtwx

Does anyone have any experience with laser distance measurement instruments such as this one for measuring snow depth? It can also be used for measuring water level in a water tank. Thinking about something like this to keep better tabs on snow depth this winter...

One of these photos is from Jamaica in the path of #HurricaneMelissa the other from the Joplin, Missouri tornado in 2011. Can you tell which one is which? The amount of force released by this hurricane is staggering...

In something as disorderly and chaotic as the Earth's atmosphere, perfection is not something that is easily attained. Yet, here we are! #HurricaneMelissa really is the perfect storm. Simply incredible!

The bark was light grey and flakey, not unlike white oak. Chestnut oak has a darker grey bark that becomes deeply furrowed with age. A couple photos of the bark. Chinkapin found in calcarious soils, which this is due to marble/limestone bedrock.

Explored the Quarry Hill Natural Area in Pownal, VT featuring an old marble quarry and a number of trees rare in VT including Chinkapin Oak (shown) and another Black Maple.

I witnessed what could have been a very serious head on collision earlier today. Two vehicles overtook myself and several others simultaneously at a very high rate of speed, the second almost colliding head on. The offending vehicles then stopped at a store 1/2 mile up the road. 🤬
