From Barca et al's chapter in Contours of Feminist Political Ecology on caring feminist communities and the degrowth movement, discussing how communities that are often left absent in imaginaries of the future are the ones who already live in the communities we strive to create.

Currently reading 'Working-Class Environmentalism' by Karen Bell (very accessible and necessary reading, FYI). Just a reminder that military emissions are not included in Ireland's Climate Action Plan, either.

Recommendations from the Youth Assembly on Climate - a proper report is incoming, but this preview shows the largest issues that concern the youth of Ireland today, and what they think our Govt need to commit more to re: our green transition.

Just attended an inspiring and fascinating talk with Dr John Bissett on his new book "It's Not Where You Live, It's How You Live" hosted by @MU__SSI @MU_Sociology. Amazing discussion on how we can answer the questions that need answering most by pushing the boundaries!

Also included in this article - a very interesting table on different types of greenwashing.

Another important point - CAP23 notes there are structurally vulnerable groups... but does not name them. There are groups who need targeted support for transition to carbon neutrality to be just, particularly disabled people, Travellers, the elderly and women & girls. (2/3)

Important in @_IHREC's Policy Statement on Just Transition is something I noted in my own research on previous CAP21 - Ireland lacks attention to equality & human-rights approach re: climate change at domestic level, only committing to address these areas globally. (1/3)

Citizen's Assembly on Biodiversity Loss recommends a referendum to enshrine the rights of humans to a clean, healthy, safe environment; a right to a stable and healthy climate; and to recognise nature as a holder of legal rights!

#CAP23 is finally here - a very quick scan reveals a section which pays attention to the interaction of gender and climate change. The word gender itself has jumped from three mentions in CAP21 to sixteen in CAP23.

I had the great honour last night of being presented with @MUAppSocSc's inaugural Séamus Ó Cinnéide Award in Social Policy at the Department's 40th Anniversary event. Getting to meet and speak with Séamus' family was very special to me. #40yearsofchange

And very interesting to find out that the electric cars of the 19th and early 20th century (!) were also looked at negatively due to gendered ideas about them.

Making my way through "Road to Nowhere: What Silicon Valley gets Wrong about the Future of Transportation" by @parismarx. Incredibly fascinating read!
