I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

A big win for people more outraged by a silly edit at the BBC than by a man impeached by Congress for literally inciting an insurrection being back in the White House. Pathetic.

The BBC is apologising for its Panorama edit. It shouldn’t. First, the narrative is true: Donald Trump *did* incite the Capitol riot. Second, the apology won’t appease those attacking it. So why not at least stand for something?

Wrote this on it earlier this week:
inews.co.uk/news/world/b...
The BBC was right about the Capitol riots. In a sane world, Trump would be in jail
The US President faced impeachment over the violence, and in a world where Republicans had more courage, he would have been found guilty

Some good news.

London is meeting legal limits for toxic NO2 pollution for the first time – almost 200 years earlier than predicted – following the Mayor’s "world leading air pollution policies," City Hall announces.

The Ultra Low Emissions Zone - and similar policies - really do work.

I just got word that the faculty senate of my university is now dissolved and no longer exists, in compliance with the new Texas law. Yikes! I thought my university would somehow find a loophole, or an exemption, but it's official. It's a sad day for shared governance and checks and balances.

Free Speech Loving Nigel Farage
Yes, I'm a journalist who's critical of Farage and Reform UK. But I'm an accredited journalist with a press card, I'm the political editor of a weekly magazine, and when I registered back in May I got confirmation it was "successful". Until today, when it's now "declined". Here's the pics:

I've always believed that the reason the Russians invested so much time pushing anti-vaccine sentiment in the US is that they knew if successful it could tear the country apart.

And here we are.
This is a public health emergency for the whole country.

There's clearly a government grid, and every day Politico tells me Ministers want to speak about a certain issue. Just feels like going through the motions though, of business as usual stuff hyped as transformational, and missing any sense of narrative.
NB smaller point but the fact Farage's media op is running rings around govt this summer was forseeable & avoidable. It's classic opposition August tactic: ministers are all knackered/on hols/saving big news for party conference, so it's smaller parties' chance to get in there & make some noise.

Chilling warning from Fiona Hill - let's not forget, Putin's biographer before she went to work for Trump in his first term. She knows the signs of growing authoritarianism, and she sees them in the US now.
Remember Fiona Hill? She’s now sounding the alarm again: “We’re definitely on a path toward full-on state repression. There’s no question about it. I’ve thought about this for an extraordinarily long time.” When Fiona speaks, we should all listen.
