I’m kind of in the dark here… I have not played for a bit and was going to get back into it. What exactly is going on?

I have some digital art apps on my tablet, but I found they were not really working for me for pixel art. I also have Gimp, but I did not have the patience for it (it is more for editing than creating for me). Pixelorama does exactly what I need it to do. 🙂

It can seem a bit overwhelming at first & a bit intimidating, but if you have a passion for pursuing it, then take that leap! Choose a game engine that you resonate with, read docs, look up tutorials for the type of game you wanna make, make tons of mistakes (that's totally okay), then own it. 😊
