Castlevania kind of touches on this, while Nocturne, set in the French Revolution where a lot of this is being overturned, barely touches it at all.

Also if we're going to be hopping around different time periods I do want to feel like I'm part of the Revolution. It was just, there, in the background.

There's other small things that I expected from Castlevania that I never got. The big villain fight I never really felt a "You must be the Belmont" turn.

There's a lot of things missing in Nocturne that Castlevania had. But the biggest is that Castlevania seasons 2 & 3 felt shit even in victory. "We beat Dracula, now Alucard is mourning. We saved the village, wtf happened?"
A story in the French Revolution with none of that juice.

The recognition of "our system allows this to happen" and then failing to take the half step after that to realize "this means the system has always been susceptible to fascism, if not primed for it" is just... so infuriating. He's still operating on the assumption the system is fundamentally good.
