It’s so good when Akihiro Hino is allowed to do his thing

I was willing to suspend my disbelief with Mario & Wario's 'Mario gets an object stuck on his head' premise until the object was A HAT

This is the best sticker that they have ever put on a game box. Even better than ‘Featuring Dante…’

Much love for a sports game that lists all the teams on the cover

I only just got to Bomb Rush Cyberfunk despite it being on my radar for years. What a refreshing game. A really tight experience, straightforward in places but in a way I really appreciated. Colourful, smooth, chunky. V. memorable. I went in thinking it might be style over substance but it had both.

This post brought to you by the 'have been carrying the Walk With Me! DS activity meter every day for like three years' gang. I am beholden to Nintendo's secret best character, the sentient activity meter that berates you for your lifestyle choices

Slightly dicey platforming aside, I can’t bring myself to hate a game that throws Rick Doms and surfing knights at me in the same stage

I was playing a bit of the (now delisted) EGGCONSOLE release of Fray and was very amused by this strange and cute photograph in the manual which makes me yearn for more strange and cute old ring-bound manuals.

Cool to know the Suikoden devs all live together in a white-walled modern house surrounded by unobtrusive objets d'art

Rare I go for every last trophy in a game, but I wanted to extend my time in the world of Dungeons of Hinterberg a bit. Simple but engaging in its combat, puzzles and social system. The characters and setting are likeable and it's quite visually stunning. Distinctly European. Play it!

You wouldn’t catch me dead in a hot pot place that didn’t have a full ultrawide Dariusburst setup.

I played more Virtua Pro Football which shared a lot of assets, but my prevailing memory of the game is some pretty wacky NPCs and very of the era (and quite dubious) secretary descriptions. It did seem slightly tongue-in-cheek throughout! Wondering if the new one will have a similar vibe at all.

I don't know what the deal is with New York Television but watching is my new nightly ritual. An experimental channel akin to old public access TV. You never quite know what you'll get. Carl Sagan docs, jazz sets, 80s TV clips. I just saw EarthBound gameplay cut into Swiss pop punk. Cool! nytv.live

Have long wondered where in the UK this slightly crass Dead or Alive magazine ad from 1998 was shot. Some 50s/60s style council estate architecture that looks extremely familiar, but in part as it could be just about anywhere.

Respect to whoever had the job of coming up with the tagline for this box. Simultaneously both very lazy and very funny.

Whizzed through Castlevania Legends on bit of a whim. A game that chugged and chuntered from start to end, with none of SotN's smoothness from that very same release year to be found (but it's a Game Boy game, go figure). It will serve you a heaped helping of goofiness though which I don't dislike.

Took a trip to a 40th anniversary exhibit at the design showroom SCP. Fun to nerd out over prototypes from designers like Jasper Morrison and Nigel Coates. They’ve kept a lot of cool archive materials and their site has a slick timeline. Love the photos especially. news.scp.co.uk/timeline/

Just learned of #RandomGameSaturday but sadly most of mine are living in storage atm. Here's one that isn't: The Maestromusic, a conducting sim complete with baton controller. The orchestra on the packaging also appear in-game as a crusty-looking two frame animation. I wonder where they all are now?
