Got some Ponyville rendering improvements for this project.
It's a different lighting approach from how I did it in Missing Out, and I think it's worth it.

So I got my list of Cycles shots to render while I'll be at Ciderfest. Given the amount of shots, it will probably extend to The Hearth's Warming Club. Some of those shots will take 20 minutes to render, but they'll be worth it.

It does help that I got my old RX 570 to crunch renders on a second computer.
I was gonna retire that card, but it still works decently, somehow. No raytracing, but thankfully not everything in the project needs raytracing.

That's about 14 hours of driving. That's a little long, but it's doable.
I did the math, it's actually cheaper than flying, somehow.

It seems like it also renders bump maps differently too.
Now I'm gonna need to rerender a whole shot again.

There's one layer missing and now it looks like Luna is going thru hard substances.

Interesting. It seems like there's some kind of discrepancy between how Luna and Celestia render this scene. I wondered why my scene had weird red pixels all over the place.

Caught one more bug in the production. Turns out the script to read camera coordinates from a JSON file to match the Toon Boom camera will generate glitchy data and make the camera fly all over the place.
Pretty easy fix, but I'm gonna have to rerender stuff.

So if I play my cards right, I should have all the renders for act 1 of my project done before the end of the year.
Seems like I'm getting a frame time of about four minutes a frame for most scenes. I'm gonna have to investigate the bottleneck before starting act 2.

Love the texture on that brushstroke-based DOF filter.
It really feels like you're dipping into a painting.

Oh, yeah it does look like a capacitor issue.
Thankfully those shouldn't be too hard to replace. You got a soldering iron around?

Fun fact, if you set Blender renders to a noise threshold, you might get early estimates of hours or days while it starts processing the image.

The project was before EEVEE, so a lot of it was rendered in Arnold or Hardware 2.0, and it was weird.
Arnold would get very noisy while rendering indirect lighting, so interiors were a bit of a challenge. Any sequence with camera movement would have to have no bounce lighting to render.

Was doing some render tests for a sequence. And I remembered how much of a pain a similar sequence was to make back in The Fall of Sunset Shimmer.

And no cavities. It's been a running gag with my dentist that I always celebrate with poutine afterwards.

Heartbreaking. Blackmagic Camera brought Open Gate support to their Android app.
It works in HDR.
It doesn't work at 4K.

Again, enough with the Vinyl Scratch slander. She's clearly the better musician here.
