30min waits on the 7, no matter the day of the week, is so damn absurd

I'm really asking everyone to please stop using Alligator Alcatraz. This is not a descriptor that makes sense. These are concentration camps.

Yesterday, he said if this was approved they’d continue to work with people & organizations that expressed concerns.

Today, after losing the vote, he said he would work closely with MNPD and council. Ignoring FORTY-SIX local organizations, many of whom who put him in office is… really something.

I think local politicians need to have a social media detox…

This is a damning indictment on many CMs who claim to stand in solidarity with marginalized groups. Thrilled the opposition efforts won. Fuck the surveillance state.

As Nashville is set to vote on another expansion of surveillance tech this Tuesday, keep this in mind:

“it’s likely that many granular aspects of a mass monitoring, detention, and deportation program would be planned by private companies contracting with ICE.”

ICE Started Ramping Up Its Surveillance Arsenal Immediately After Donald Trump Won
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement put out a fresh call for contracts for surveillance technologies before an anticipated surge in the number of people it monitors ahead of deportation hearings.

Last night reminded me of why I do this work & why I push for holistic organizing. We are poised to see a progressive Mayor, VM, & sympathetic council.

urbanism rooted in class privilege (the privilege of having the means to cut and run if you can) is inherently reactionary and conservative.

we will never achieve liberation through class analysis that cedes the basic premise of societal transformation to the status quo.

We were tired of folks not asking questions that mattered to students in Nashville. Because of this, we created our own questionnaire & issued our own endorsements at
@tnstudentunion.bsky.social. This took a lot longer than expected, but we're thrilled to have finally released everything!
We’re incredibly excited to announce our endorsements for the upcoming Metro election! These were decided based on who we believe will best fight for students. Any members with a conflict of interest in a race did not impact these decisions.

there’s been next to zero attempts to resonate with youth through this election cycle, which is a big mistake

if you’re running a campaign, get at least one young person who’ll help lead your comms

the most absurd thing is people complaining about housing in flood-prone areas & then opposing density that would allow those flood-prone areas to be things like parks or nature preserves

The juvenile justice system is a whole different beast that isn't emphasized as much as it needs to be in abolitionist circles. We haven't gotten an account up here yet, but this is something we're looking to platform soon at the Tennessee Student Union (@TNStudentUnion)

What's happening in Boston is a telltale sign of why we must expand outside of electoralism in our organizing. Michelle Wu campaigned on defunding the police as a progressive; she now refused to sign any budget that didn't have an increase in police funding.
