An interesting story, one interpretation says Britain fielded multiple armies starting with the experienced professional BEF, then the prewar trained Territorial Army, Kitchener’s enthusiastic volunteers, and finally the conscript army.
Out Now: ‘British Army Recruiting during the FWW and SWW’ with Dr Sanderson

A memorable quote from a FWW Officer by Harry “The infantry will always be the thunderbolt in the hands of Jupiter to throw at the enemy” makes a great listen!

I’m pretty sure Condor read about it in a book
Theres a little known refinement of Chekov's Gun known as Lineman's Gun where if a character is established at having telephone lineman experience it will prove to be crucial to resolving the plot. This basically only ever comes up in Three Days Of The Condor

I’m pretty sure that the Coast Guard’s performance on a Mexican beach would be explained in the Army by the words “Second Lieutenant” and “ map”.

Commentary: A new study shows that national security professionals are often overconfident, frequently wrong in their judgments, prone to false positives, and resistant to self-correction.

So DJT is being rejected by his age cohort?
After the first one, they said we were just a bunch of old people.

After the second one, they said we were domestic terrorists.

Now we’re back to being old again.

A precondition for Republics to transition to autocracies is the politicization of the military. It is why the political & military leaders of the country have been so vigilant to keep partisanship away from it. But this admin is dismantling that concept. www.cnn.com/2025/10/15/p...
How the Pentagon sidelined lawyers while testing the legal limits of military action | CNN Politics
For weeks earlier this year, the Army’s top uniformed lawyer had been raising legal concerns inside the Pentagon about some of the new policies being rolled out dictating how the military can be used ...

Thanks goodness Pete Hegseth is eliminating political correctness and letting warriors be warriors*

*if you guys did not watch the mandatory video, or mocked it, expect to be punished
NEW: Pentagon officials are forcing staff to watch Pete Hegseth's "Warrior" speech he forced generals to listen to.

Officials are even "testing" staff to see if they watched — and are threatening consequences if they lie about watching it or if they mock it, sources tell @swin24.bsky.social and I.

I've been banging this drum for the past four months or so: DOGE and Russ Vought broke the appropriations process. What's the point of going through the arduous process of crafting 12 spending bills, clearing them through committee and getting them through two chambers if Trump does rescissions?
If appropriations bills are not seen as enforceable contracts, why should any Member of Congress vote to fund any part of the federal government under Donald Trump? You're voting to provide money for lawlessness. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/there-is-n...
There is no budget "deal" to be made
President Trump has so broken the constitutional framework as to make joint normal, responsible government impossible.

One should assume, if one had not already, that every single thing the GOP has to say about pretty much anything is a lie or fabrication.
“.. On closer inspection, however, it turned out that the image was not a photograph of a real event in Portland, but instead a fabrication created by combining two photographs of scenes that unfolded in South America nearly a decade apart ..”

Got it in one, plus there’s always the possibility of goading anti-ICE protesters into reacting.
This is like planting evidence and then making an arrest.

Republicans just REJECTED our attempt to keep the government funded & stop your health care costs from skyrocketing.

They have the White House, House, and Senate. They could have just kept costs stable – they refused.

Don’t let them gaslight you. This is a Republican shutdown.
