I don’t get the impression that Patel Braverman or Mahmood were being forced into this role.

Thanks Ed. Yes the Vincent stuff was early 86. I thought the John Carlisle/Harvey Proctor visits were before but I could well be wrong. Hope you’re well xx

savethorpewoodlands.blogspot.com/2011/01/meet... what I had not appreciated until now is that anotehr Mayhew scion (Tristram) owns Go Ape - the forestry assault course business. Perhaps he got the idea from watching his older brother.

Mayhew was one of Patrick Mayhew's sons. His dad was Solicitor General at the time, before going on to become Attorney General and then Northern Ireland secretary. I remember seeing something on telly about Henry living in a shipping container in a wood somewhere. This also popped up in a search ⬇️

Actually, now I think about it, Mark Francois - anyone remember him? was a leading light in the Bristol Uni Conservative students association and the wider FCS. Maybe he can shed light on the matter. tradingaswdr.blogspot.com/2021/12/on-m... And Henry Mayhew was definitely in the thick of it.

looking into the archives I see John Carlisle spoke at Bristol in early 85. I thought Harvey Proctor had been the first far-right MP invited by the FCS to speak at Bristol Uni Union, but I can't find a date for his visit. So the stickers prob were 1985 - what do you think Ed @edplowden.bsky.social ?

Exactly. EA shouldn’t be leading on investigations where organised crime is involved. Should be National Crime Agency.
November 15, 2025 at 10:28 AM
there's an institutional problem here - that it's left to the overstretched EA to lead investigations. The vaunted "Joint Unit for Waste Crime" launched in 2020 has clearly been totally ineffective. Last year they effected 13 arrests, though there is no indication whether these led to prosecutions.

I wonder if it's the same gang who did this to Hoads wood www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

can any former FCS members confirm?

Lee mentions the Federation of Conservative Students and their "Hang Nelson Mandela" badges. I have to admit I thought it was earlier than 1985; the Special AKA hit was released in March 1984, and while I admit my memories of those years are "hazy", I reckon the badges appeared in Spring '84.
