Starting to wonder if the Internet was a good idea.

Views expressed are my own.
@aragusea.bsky.social almost perfect on the British school cake! Ask your audience but I remember our custard being pink sometimes, that would have been spot on.

Even when cornered Trump is still the absolute master of the Attention Economy:

Never had the privilege
Trump does what it takes to deliver his message in an insane attention economy. Pro-democracy forces must do the same, then fix the system.

Happy Sunday everyone.

I've been thinking a lot recently about how the internet makes us feel and why, and how that is bleeding over into real life. I've compressed these thoughts into this article, enjoy!

Why did a 33-year-old left-wing firebrand just beat a political heavyweight in NYC? It’s not about policy—it’s about attention.

Scandals, algorithms, and the rise of SEO politics:

Morning all, I’m trying out Substack to clarify my thoughts on the attention economy and its impact on democracy. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Democracy Is in Crisis and It Won’t Heal on Its Own
In 2025 democracy across the world is under threat. It will take clear thinking to diagnose the problem and only then can we prescribe treatment.

. @jvl.bsky.social continues to model my internal monologue about US politics.

It’s good for my sanity, perhaps less so for his.

Failed to get my Cal Newport inspired, Digital Minimalism walk without checking my phone or listening to a podcast today. But here's a picture from Saturday's (... does taking a picture count as a digital free walk?)

Trying to make this a habit. Especially as the weather gets better.

Man has a point. Staying informed is important and while the news is often bad news outlets seem to have an incentive to make us miserable to gain our attention.
Have you ever thought about how your life might change if you NEVER followed the news?

NEVER glanced at newspaper headlines in the shops.

NEVER visited news websites.

NEVER watched news or current affairs programmes (eg Question Time) on TV, or listened to them on the radio.

How would you feel?

Happy Monday! Just finished Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport—highly recommend. Less about quitting social media, more about living intentionally. 🧵

Happy Friday! To celebrate here's a picture of my first beer 🍺

We don’t give beer to children—it’s addictive, alters behaviour, and has long-term risks

But we hand them screens without a second thought

What changes do you want the Government to bring to regulate screen use?

@jvl.bsky.social you’re getting somewhere with finding enemies for Democrats. Sad that it took a murder but this is a productive seam to explore.

Who would a Democratic administration be bad for?
