That's a point. Aix-en-Provence TGV is also server by Renfe and Trenitalia. Do they still allow bookings for the short hop to/from Marseille?

Obviously the lower frequencies are a problem, but it could provide a compromise whilst SNCF gets their act together?

It sounds kinda similar to how LNER is to stop selling London - Stevenage tickets in order to force people to use Thameslink/Great Northern instead.

The difference is that the alternative *does* exist, whilst the Aix TGV station is nowhere near the Aix regional station!

Woah that looks weird! I thought it was in the old BR Regional Railways livery at first glance!

In the same way that you can request to have seats reserved in the quiet zone, if you know you're going to be making phone calls or chatting to your friends, you should be able to request to NOT be in the quiet zone! (2/2)

I think part of the problem is that people who don't necessarily want to be in the quiet zone get automatically put there when they book there tickets. (1/2)

Isn't it basically just a fancy word for railway enthusiast

You're absolutely spot on that we need both, but considering the plans for NPR don't even exist yet, surely it make sense to crack on with constructing HS2 in the meantime (rather than doing nothing) especially since so much of the infrastructure is shared e.g. through Manchester?

Capacity has always been the primary justification behind HS2, not a "side benefit". The advantage of HS2 is that as well as achieving it for the North, it also achieves it for the Midlands.

Yes and no. By freeing up capacity at key stations like Leeds and Manchester Picc, it would allow many more suburban services to run on the existing network. So whilst it might not have helped *that* much with intercity connections, the commuter routes within cities would have benefitted immensely!

The lack of toilets sadly isn't surprising given how small the station is.

However I think the bit about the lack of disabled parking must be an error on the National Rail website - every other station on the Northumberland line has them, and they are shown in the technical drawings for the station

Even more so as that 230 doesn't even use the GWR moquette!
October 13, 2025 at 7:13 PM
Looks like GWR to me but the diamond shape is similar!
October 13, 2025 at 6:35 PM
This must be an ex-Northern unit as most GWR 150s I travel on have 2+2
