It's pretty good and gets a lot of call outs in the literature. Not your typical film noir but a classic for sure.

If your target market is younger then definitely, but the (very good) pun might throw old people off. Billy Wilder did a film noir called Ace in the Hole set in the opposite of the Rough Part of Town (isolated nowheresville).
Could still be a solid title but heads up

Couldn't for the life of me remember how it used to work so pulled out Ye Olde Tome to check and yeah—there's a little explicit sentence right at the explanation for the first damage condition in the Combat chapter. Probably got dropped in restructuring? But that def helped Teen Mike immensely.

* Please note due to idiocy this sidebar may already exist and I am simply spacing out on it, in which case I offer my stupid apologies.

OK I'm an idiot, but only now on page 197 did I understand how health/HP/etc. works in Mutants and Masterminds 4E.

It's elegant and cool—a sidebar much earlier that says "eventually those Hit penalties to Damage resistance checks will result in 3 degrees of failure and KO" would go a long way.

Have you had a go of it using something simple (like getpaint.net) and stock assets? There's a *lot* of sci-fi packs for those.

Have you perused all of Poe? Some of his obscure stuff is surprisingly creepy and I recall getting unsettled here and there.
