Good morning. Today will be one of the most active weather days coast-to-coast in recent memory.

Would be very nice to have a fully-staffed National Weather Service.

Give thanks to your preferred omnipotent entity for the meteorologists sacrificing their personal health to bring you the forecast

A bonus #rstats #30DayMapChallenge how-to, thanks to some updates to the {mapgl} package: make an interactive, raster temperature map for any date and any state.

Example: walker-data.com/map-...

Every single time I open LinkedIn it’s a new now ex-NOAA employee that was doing incredible, important work that’s now seeking employment. What an absolutely devastating loss for public US science specifically with weather and climate.

THIS!!! 👇🏾🎯
How did our country (the U.S.) create and elevate such a group of cowardly, greedy, vain, arrogant, and profoundly insecure men to the highest rungs of power? They bring Zelensky to the Oval Office for what? To mock and denigrate a truly courageous leader & try to bring him down to their base level?

I have covered presidential politics for 40 years. This was the most juvenile display by a President and Vice President I have ever seen. Other presidents treated their enemies with more respect. This is a low point and a dark day for the US. Totally embarrassing.

Zelenskyy has huge balls. Doing this all right in front of the press. Honestly the first bit of inspiring media I've seen in a long time.

FWIW, for those who missed #AGU24 last week, advances in #geospatial #AI / #ML were highlighted in practically EVERY single #AGU24 session I attended. 🤔 #EOchat #GISchat #ScienceSky 🧪

On Day 25 of #30DayMapChallenge: Heat, a map of high temperatures in TX using gridMET data and the {climateR} #rstats package.

In the script, learn how to convert a SpatRaster to polygonal grid cells and visualize them with Mapbox in R.

Code: github.com/walkerke/...
