I guess it’s everywhere but I gotta say academia is RIFE with people who feel mistreated by the system but don't realize as they accrue power that at some point they started punching down.

I just walked out of federal court where I pleaded NOT GUILTY to the charges against me.

I will continue to stand up to authoritarianism and call this out for what it is: a political prosecution.

Further to this, it is disappointing that most of the news coverage of the $1bn threat letter did not critically engage with its content.

Instead, most coverage accepted the content of the letter at face value.
My post yesterday on the $Ibn Trump legal threat against the BBC has been picked up by newspapers around the world. It would appear few had gone through the letter and spotted that, well, it contained no evidence in support of its claims of damage.

It occurred to me that Chiwetel Ejiofor might be a good Bond because he's British and I remember being impressed by his gun-handling in Children of Men, so I checked his odds and apparently you can get 66-1 for him; probably about right

For anyone who is like “the creature is also named Frankenstein”; Mary Shelley went to see a play version of Frankenstein and was tickled that they listed the creature as “———“ in the dramatis personae:

“this nameless mode of naming the unnameable is rather good”

Reading is not performative! Some of us simply enjoy books without any self-consciousness at all.

Now, let me outline for you the books that shaped my childhood. I must begin with Aristophanes, of course, but *which* Aristophanes?...

Saw this one out of the context on the TL and thought it was about comedians whose brand is having been cancelled for problematic sets they did years ago
personally I suspect the success of many people who have branded themselves in this way has less to do with the problem sets they did years ago and more to do with the contemporary intellectual labor of the people who they force to work life consuming hours for minimal recognition

I get that if you like reading then the articles hyping a performative reading trend come over as wildly offensive but they're just journalists trying to make a living and we mustn't let them upset us
