I have started a new job in Wenzhou. I am looking forward to learning a lot about China at a moment in time which is pivotal for China and in which China is pivotal for the world.

The image shows the campus as seen from my flat. If you pass through China, come by and say hi.

His whole life, my father has been active collecting money for good causes. If you can, please donate in his memory to the Foundation for Children with Cancer, Regio Basiliensis, in support of bone tumour research. For details, please check the attached notice.

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it was beautiful."
My father has selected this quote by Gabriel José García Márquez for his death notice.
Of course, he is right. Still, it will take time until I will be able to fulfil his final wish.

I always knew @xinfan.bsky.social was a prolific writer, but I just learnt from Amazon how incredibly expansive his 2021 monograph is. 😲

🇨🇩 I used to show photos of these in class to talk about Lumumba, NAM and the Cold War. I have now gotten the physical artefacts so I can let students look at them instead and also discuss stamps as a historical source.

Okay, so you don't trust the death count by the Gaza Ministry of Health? What then do other estimates say how many people died? Well, as reported by the Economist, most likely between 1.5x and 2x what the Gaza Ministry of Health estimates. Meaning, up to 5% of the strip's total population!

Looks like the new @degruyterbrill.bsky.social website went live. I feel it looks a bit cluttered, but the colour theme works well and highlighting the imprints is a good idea. Funny though that the Brill books aren't yet in the database.

Habibty @hendaly.bsky.social, today we celebrate our 10-year "tin" wedding anniversary. It's been the most amazing ten years during which we lived in six countries together and you additionally spent a semester in Germany.

Apparently people in Cairo are now decorating whole buildings with LED lights (for Ramadan?) — I think this might be Araba wa Nus, but I am not entirely sure.
