I’ve paid at the pump for 30+ years. Never once was I asked to show ID.
The last time I needed to show ID at a grocery store was for writing a check (30+ years ago) or when buying beer and the snotty nose cashier could not determine my age. My response was “honey, I was legal before you were born!”.

But even if negotiations/compromises/whatever could get the CR to vote and pas, this would only keep the government open until November 21. Then what? What is Congress doing now to prevent another shutdown in 3 weeks? Johnson has everyone on vacation.

Question - if furloughed employees receive back pay, will they re-pay the food banks? It should be set up as a loan of food, but once back pay is dispersed, they should pay back the food banks. I’m not meaning to be cruel, but it’s very possible furloughed employees end up ahead.

Not sure where to find the details, but oftentimes sign-on bonuses are not paid all upfront. There are typically conditions for a large portion to be paid after a period of employment. And there is a payback if employee terminates before a designated amount of time (usually a year or more).

The Speaker does not need to be the one to swear her in. It can be a judge, or even a notary. The Federal law is not specific on who administers the swearing in.
