The Trump admin in a nutshell; in order to justify their own mistake, they’re going to release a violent felon with five deportations so he can testify against the guy with no criminal record they mistakenly deported.

In other words, the story is always more important than the principle.
The Trump admin has freed Jose Hernandez Reyes because he can testify against Abrego Garcia.

Hernandez, who has been deported 5 times, has also been arrested for:

—DUI w/ a handgun;
—cocaine possession;
—illegally transporting migrants; and
—drunkenly firing a gun.

Star witness against Kilmar Abrego García was due to be deported. Now he’s being freed.
Jose Ramon Hernandez Reyes is a three-time felon released early from federal prison to a halfway house in exchange for testifying against Kilmar Abrego García.

Good, more of this please
one Catholic tradition I would like to bring back in America is priests getting arrested in political protests

I want to see some Father Daniel Berrigan energy out in these streets
Pope Leo’s first US episcopal appointment, San Diego’s Bishop-designate Pham, a Vietnamese refugee, invites priests and faith leaders to “stand in solidarity”with migrants at courthouse on June 20, as they make court appearances.

Every time I walk past a bank, I face an ethical question. Should I just rob it? It's a stumper.
When Meta started developing its flagship AI model, employees faced an ethical question, Alex Reisner writes. The program would need to be trained on a huge amount of high-quality writing to be competitive with products such as ChatGPT. Should they just pirate it?

So look at that. DOGE has cost the US Treasury fucking half a trillion dollars. HALF A TRILLION DOLLARS. This is your cost savings.
To review what we from @washingtonpost.com are reporting out of the IRS today:

- Projected tax revenue this year is down 10% ($500 billion) as Trump's downsizing is emboldening tax cheats

- IRS is nearing an agreement with ICE to assist on mass deportations

Perhaps the most concise way to think about this is that Musk has pranced around bragging about cracking down on fraud and abuse, finding the bad guys. Meanwhile what he's actually done is enable perhaps the biggest splurge of fraud and tax cheating in history. For him and his pals.

every person involved in this needs to be in prison
“One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, ‘I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.’ I believed him. *** He “began to whimper,” as his head was roughly shaved, “folding his hands in prayer as his hair fell.” He “asked for his mother & cried as he was slapped again.”

New — A viral story about the Dropkick Murphys getting banned from X was reported by multiple reputable news outlets. But as @jsweetli.bsky.social learned through simple reporting, the story was totally false.

For The Handbasket she explains her work, and exposes major holes in current journalism:
How a false story about an anti-Trump band went viral
News outlets reported the Dropkick Murphys were banned from X by Elon Musk. As Jacqueline Sweet easily found, it wasn’t true.

The absolute worst thing I could imagine would be having one of my kids die. I cannot possibly imagine saying that the thing that killed them is “not as bad a they’re making it out to be.”
Parents of the child who died of measles have joined RFK-founded Children's Health Defense. Anti-vaccine groups excel at swooping in for tragedy, offering parents a cause.

“Don’t do the shots,” her mother said, measles is “not as bad as they’re making it out to be.”

Anti-vaccine influencers see the child’s death as proof — not of the danger of measles, but of their own debunked theories.

Remember 1983’s “The Day After”? There was a woman who wouldn’t stop making her bed as the sirens were going off. It drove me crazy at the time; now I understand.
the weird thing about the descent into fascism is how normal everything else seems.

kids have birthday parties. folks go on vacation. neighbors say good morning. people walk their dogs. joggers wind their way through their early-morning exercise.

yet the power grab slowly grows.

I think there's some truth to this. The faster everything falls apart here, the sooner they can play out their narrative of "saving" humanity from itself. It's deeply sociopathic
Musk and Thiel and their bunch think most of humanity are surplus. They don't see themselves as having customers or even businesses in the conventional sense. I think they're honestly hoping to provoke mass riots in the belief that we'll off ourselves or that they can have us all gunned down.

Doge has itemized $10bn in savings; but all of those were revised down to $19m due to errors and now have been removed from the list.

So essentially there are zero itemized savings from DOGE as of today.

Musk here isn’t simply being stupid.

He’s purposely defining Nazism down. The claim that there weren’t Nazis until, in effect, 1939, is ridiculous—but it is an attempt to stop people from correctly calling out elements of Nazism today as long as or until there’s not an actual world war or genocide.
Elon Musk says that as long as you aren't "committing genocide and starting wars" you are "not a Nazi"

Musk’s status as a “special government employee” limits him to 130 days in the executive branch. However, despite working daily—documented by his own X posts—they claim he only works one day a week, effectively stretching his limit to 130 weeks. This needs to be brought to Congress—please share.
