Back in 2012, I ended up coming to see the term “the economy” named as an issue by voters to be a catch all meaning everything and nothing.
I am waiting for the day when people (including pollsters) learn that when people say they’re voting on the economy, it’s often because it’s a socially acceptable front for other, not socially acceptable reasons.
To me, if you're writing a big picture look at gaps between the parties and where the electorate stands, the main takeaway would be "I don't think most of the electorate voted for a dictatorship, no public services, and a return to Jim Crow."
