Poor Mr Langleigh was so tall and top-heavy that she could hear him gangling, but he had kind eyes and a freckled face that forgave his long front teeth and sharp chin. #amwriting #books #booksky

I just got off the phone with Santa.
He said we can't have a whole block of cheese for dinner.
No girl dinner means Christmas is cancelled.

Not just paperwork but also having the "we have food at home" conversation with yourself at least 3 times a day.
And paperwork.

Why does adulthood involve *invented and unnecessary* paperwork?
I think one of the least talked about things that are freaking exhausting as an adult is how much time you have to spend chasing other people to do their jobs.

This phrase, because of it's grammatical structure, and this graph can also apply to, "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times."
As you can see from the graph, it began to be "a time to be alive" during the interwar period. And then again in the 90s, presumably due to britpop. But the 2020s are easily the most "what a time to be alive" era of all time.

“What does someone’s affection smell like?”
“It's not the same for everyone, but your blush has a distinct scent, a rich rosehip wine brightened by your features and warmed by the midday sun. When it starts to fade, the heat and moisture in your skin give it a slightly sorrel taste.” #books

"What does autumn smell like to you?” Maedlynn asked him.
“Death, but not in an evil sense. Autumn has a moribund scent, everything resting and releasing. It smells like sleep and delicate decay, the desperation of life lingering on, the fine vintage of coming snow.”

Small Gods was so important to me that I dedicated Myndil to Sir Terry. If not for him, this book wouldn't have been what it is.

Tell me about a book that changed you:

Small Gods by Sir Terry Pratchett. It is a perfect novel, one that asks us about the nature of belief and considers the question: do the religious really have faith or do they only fear punishment for not falling in line?
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Part of what makes The Creature's story so pitiable and commiseratory is that his story is similar to one many humans endure.

Ask any unwanted child.

The child that is not embraced by the village will turn on the elders who have spurned it.
