Fascism is using us American Jews as moral human shields, covering its takeover with lies about protecting Jews. They aren’t. They’re pushing Jews into harm’s way, as some Jews become fools & believe it & some non-Jewish antifascists are fooled & believe it. Only fascism profits from this lie.

this is an essay on this fucking stupid idea, just hitting the technical issues

it's time to cover this one. what are *your* favourite writeups on why data centres in space are just fucking stupid?
Datacenters in space are a terrible, horrible, no good idea.
There is a rush for AI companies to team up with space launch/satellite companies to build datacenters in space. TL;DR: It's not going to work.

With vaccination, Australia has nearly eliminated cervical cancer. Cuba has a vaccine to prevent lung cancer.

In the U.S., anti-vax Trump Administration cranks are working to bring back diseases that once killed almost 1/4 of all young children. I wonder about tombstone industry bribes.

Northwestern joins the growing list of US universities which are caving to Trump by agreeing to illegally ban trans people from facilities.

Banning trans people from bathrooms is illegal in Illinois, as affirmed by law and a court ruling.

This whole thread is worth reading, but it’s this specific bit I keep fixating on when it comes up in these discussions, in part because it most consistently matches what educators in my life tell me: what is happening much earlier in childhood to set students up with zero executive function?
This is not a "students today" post--it's more "this is a new form of dysfunction" that doesn't look exactly like it's been in previous decades. It's more than just "first-year chaos." It's an across-the-board inability to process instructions, engage with longer texts, and *connect* with others.

To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Every single congressional Democrat needs to be out there, right now, insisting that Pete Hegseth resign right now and announcing that he will be held accountable for committing war crimes.

If you do not demand accountability here and now, they will only become more emboldened.
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.
