I wrote the 1st critical study of Bob Dylan's work, over 50 years ago. And I'm still alive. Very fond of dogs. I'm English and regard myself as European.
"I just marvel that at 20% of his powers he’s this good." I agree with that. What makes me wince is hearing/reading people say - and they really do - that he is "as good as ever".

Thank you. It's appreciated.

Are you not tired yet of all the posturing delivery alongside all his not bothering to sing whole lines into the vocal mike? Are you not tired yet with many of these Rough & Rowdy Ways songs?

Your entitled what?

Such a vast amount of technical expertise and effort for so curate's egg a result.

Oops - I forgot I was to restrict my comments to arts matters on BlueSky. Mea culpa.

I just find it an artistic misjudgment: a lapse into silliness, a trivialisation. I'd be the first to say that he has offered very, very few such lapses in his immensely long artistic life.

Johnny, I said nothing about other people.

No. That didactic repeated up-down-up-down is awful: an embarrassment. The same foolishness marred It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (though that had other lovely vocal and melodic touches) and, on the Outlaw tour, To Ramona.

Thanks. Best Simone track ever: Judy Collins's 'My Father'. Don't be put off by a lush orchestra. Hear an inspired touch: when, at the start, the family lives in Ohio but dreams of France, she pronounces the river Seine as "sane"; when she lives there in later life, she knows to pronounce it "senn".

Now Keith, that IS annoying.

Well he's very animated on the acoustic guitar but the vocal is close to a parody of how nasal he can make it.

I am: because most of it will be takes I've not heard (or not heard in good audio quality) before, and mostly taken from his toweringly good early phases, when every sound & breath came out exactly how he intended, with none of the later live slurring, showbiz contamination or weary posturing.
