It looks like every Irish outlet (that I've seen so far) has just transcribed a wire services report about the Linehan trial that is *dripping* with anti trans bias, misgendering the victim, calling the teenage victim an "activist" but not Linehan, and eliding the fact that the victim was a child

BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

The whole world is being poisoned and has been poisoned for more than 80 years by these chemical companies, everyone has been affected by this. Rachel Carson fought with them for years over DDT, looks her up, her writing is beautiful and her message is more relevant today than ever.
The EPA will approve two new pesticides containing “forever chemicals” and relax a reporting rule for companies who make products with forever chemicals.

The moves come after a $60 million lobbying blitz from the forever chemical industry.

Where is the MAHA outcry?

I needed a summer job because supply teachers don't get paid during summer holidays, found one that let me work outdoors. 18 years later I'm still there, still get to work outdoors and with young people.

The greediest man in the world ended aid to the poorest, killing several thousand. USAID was a truly wonderful agent for good, the impacts of the Trump and Musk cuts will continue into the future, it's an unfolding tragedy of epic proportions. We live in awful times.
Hmmm…what USAID wasn’t bad for America…what if getting rid of it only hurt us and everyone else?

What if the richest man in the world being responsible for ending aid to the poorest people in the world will go down as one of the most bizarre and disgusting acts of the 21st century?

Yeah, Britain has the largest population of crusty old conservatives. Mad thing is they all think that being transphobic is punk and that they're revolutionary, when in truth they're just tired old bigots.
i think transphobia will continue to not really take off in the united states as an electoral issue simply because it feels intensely british

Shabana Mahmood casually saying they're gonna take migrant's jewellery off them has got me thinking about that scene in Schindler's List where the Jewish family wrap family heirlooms in bread and swallow them.

What the fuck are we?

And no one who still believes in all the things a Labour party is supposed to stand for should remain a member because you are now in a right wing, racist transphobic, anti-immigrant, party led by venal dullards only interested in power and serving capital
Hard to understand how the UK Labour party has even a single member left, seeing as it it has now become everything that you imagine someone once drawn to joining a Labour party is vehemently against. No one joins a Labour party hoping to punch down on the weakest and advance far right arguments

Liverpool fan here. Despite a few poor results and the feeling of gloom losses bring, I still get a buzz from seeing the names on our team sheet. The talent! Also Arsenal are due a league, their team this year already look like they're going all the way. Next year will be our year 😜

There's the starting gun for a race to the bottom with the DUP and TUV desperate to outdo their rivals Reform in the politics of furious outrage against people they don't like having human rights. Things are going to get loopier in NI politics if they stand people here in the next vote.

People had to complain to get Polanski an interview.

Weird nobody has to beg the BBC to give Farage airtime.

I mean, it's not actually weird. We all know what it is and why it happens.

The reason the Right are so invested in the myth that the arts have no value isn’t because the arts don’t generate wealth (they do); it’s that studying the arts teaches people to imagine better ways of judging the value of an idea than by counting how much money it makes…

Colin is correct, & also now we have a crew of politicians who are openly saying that we are getting too big for our boots and should have no voice in any part of policy development - the policies the government then contract to us to do for pennies.

More organisations will follow Parenting Focus.
NI has a really vibrant civil society, staffed by socially committed people often working for far below market rates for their jobs. The fate of Parenting Focus is a real warning. Years of cuts have left almost no reserves in much of the sector:
