I am sort of actively dealing with a noise thing in a big city right now so: I think there is a difference between “normal city life noise” and “genuinely distressing noise” and I think reasonable people can and do differ on where that line is.

I agree with both of these things. Louisville isn’t the Midwest but you can walk to it from there.

Eric Isaacson has a recent-ish book about this, “Visualizing Music.” I say this with the caveat that I have not read it yet, but it’s based on a class I took of his and so has lots of examples, both good and bad. (I signed a release for an example of mine, which I hope is a good one.)

No arguments there at all! I switched a while ago for the same reason and am mostly used to it by now but it’s still awful.

You can make them on a Mac, but not on iOS, it seems (but ones created on Mac show up in my phone). If you right-click in the sidebar in the playlists section there’s a pop-up for “New Playlist Folder”.

The uncomfortability of those seats legitimately plays into my decision to buy tickets to things there. “Oh this person in town, I like them ok…oh wait, but not enough to see them the Merriam.”
