Read this important thread. The Trump administration are not conservatives. They are radicals.
OMB director Russell Vought is MAGA's shrewdest operator. His interview with Tucker Carlson is a Rosetta Stone to decode what's happening right now. In this thread I summarize key points, plus time cues. Listen for yourself!

You can now read about projects that were interrupted when 18F was disbanded.

One of them was with the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP), which ensures military service members and Americans overseas are able to vote, and that their votes are counted.

Trump on NATO: "If the United States was in trouble and we called them. We said, 'We got a problem, France.' Do you think they're gonna come and protect us? Hmm. They're supposed to. I'm not so sure." (Literally the only time NATO Article 5 was invoked was after 9/11 on behalf of the US.)

There is no clearer voice on democratic erosion than Steven Levitsky.

This piece is perfect. It will help clarify the worried thoughts of those who already know things are bad, but it also explains what is happening to those who don't yet know.

1. It’s a cliché but nonetheless true that the intellectual culture in France reminds us what we are missing in the UK. 🧵

Dave wrote Facebook’s first content moderation rules and is the least hysterical person I know. If he says Meta’s changes are politically designed to accommodate Trump, believe him. 👇🏻
Instead, these below-the-fold changes are very clearly designed to avoid having to penalize people like Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene for the increasingly dehumanizing language they use against these specific groups. You can tell because of the changes they *didn't* make. 🧵 9/11
