Delighted to take part in the Languages Connect #ThinkLanguages week yesterday in a celebration of linguistic diversity and language learning at Mary Immaculate College, Ireland. We welcomed almost 100 TY students from 3 post-primary schools who engaged in a number of language workshops. 1/2

Great start to the “Resistance Cultures Festival - Algeria 🇩🇿/ Ireland 🇮🇪” at Mary Immaculate College, an event organised by Dr Mairead Ni Bhriain (French Studies, MIC) and Prof. Martin Evans (History, University of Sussex) this morning.

We were delighted to meet with Prof. Véronique Lagae (Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France) who is visiting @micireland.bsky.social this week as part of an Erasmus+ mobility agreement recently signed between our 2 institutions. Many thanks to our International Office for organising her visit.

An event celebrating the power of music and performance as cultural resistance—with a specific focus on the parallels between Ireland and Algeria—will take place at MIC on Friday 30 May.

Prof. Stephanie Schwerter (Université Polytechnique des Hauts de France) gave a very enjoyable lecture on the challenges of translation to staff & students from our department today. Prof. Schwerter is visiting MIC as part of a teaching mobility agreement signed last year between our 2 institutions.

Huge FÉLICITATIONS to our former graduate @conorsheehan.bsky.social on his election to Dáil Éireann yesterday! Conor started French with us at MIC as a complete beginner in 2011 and ended up being awarded the French Embassy Prize at his graduation in 2015. We’re proud of you, Conor!
