Some discussion today among Co. Donegal birders of the differences between ‘our’ European golden plover and American golden plover, which turns up in the county reasonably often. This video by @delboydonegal.bsky.social really helps, I think.

It’s not all about rarities. I’ve always been thrilled by the spectacle of a large flock of birds responding to the elemental urge to migrate. On a recent visit to Inch @delboydonegal.bsky.social captured this video of an estimated 1,500 Greylag geese.

A lifer today for some of the county’s most enthusiastic and experienced birders - this county-first Swainson’s Thrush should have been heading from Canada to South America, not Málainn Mhóir (Malin More), Gleann Cholm Cille (Glencolumbkille). Photo @delboydonegal.bsky.social

Really looking forward to the book, Nick. Here’s a lugar de memoria I stumbled on in Andalucía three years ago. Thrilling when you find this sort of thing. I thought the poem by Guillén was super.

#donegalbirding. A useful plan provided by @delboydonegal.bsky.social for identifying birding locations at Blanket Nook. Should help avoid confusion.

While #donegalbirding appears to have given way to donegal cetatia lately, the signs of autumn are there. King of the patch @delboydonegal.bsky.social has caught a couple of passage waders - little stint and wood sandpiper - at Blanket Nook and Inch.

Through the looking glass: the British govt. could jail an old woman for 14 years for this peaceful pro-Palestine protest while it legitimises the rabid anti-semitism of X, and its in-house AI chatbot Grok.

Is Jamie Jackson on lineage? It’s day after day after day #mufc in @theguardian.com and it has become very boring.

Had to chuckle at these shelf-fellows in a Manchester bookshop.
